About This Blog

Hi, I’m Tempei Takeuchi. I am a professional photographer based out of Squamish, British Columbia. Born and raised in Japan, I lived in Tokyo and Saitama until 2008, when the breathtaking landscapes of BC completely captured my heart and drew me to the Sea to Sky corridor. I’ve called this incredible region home ever since.

The unmatched accessibility to the wild and the deeply connected outdoor community are what keep me rooted in Squamish. Like many who move to or visit the Sea to Sky, I live to travel and explore wild places. This blog is my way of sharing that accumulated knowledge and passion, with the ultimate hope of inspiring you to get outside and explore.

I want this website to be a highly practical database to help you plan exactly when and where to go on your next adventure. To make it a true historical reference point, the publish date of every blog post matches the exact date the trip took place. This allows you to look back at specific months and years to check historical snowpacks, trail conditions, and seasonal weather.

To help you gauge the logistics of each route, every post includes a dedicated “Beta Box” with the following tracking metrics:

Trip Type: Loop, Traverse, Out-and-Back, etc. This explains how the route starts and ends.

Start time: The time the trip officially begins, typically when leaving the parking lot or trailhead.

Approach Time: The total time taken to reach the high point or the starting point of a descent.

Approach Distance: The total distance from the trailhead to the start of the descent or to the main destination.

Starting Elevation: The elevation where the vehicle was parked and the trip began.

Highest Elevation: The maximum elevation reached during the course of the trip.

Total Distance: The complete round-trip distance tracked from the vehicle and back or to the end of the traverse.

Total Elevation Gain: The cumulative amount of vertical climbing completed over the entire trip.

Total Trip Time: The full duration of the adventure, tracking the exact time from leaving the vehicle to arriving back. began.

⚠️ NOTE: I frequently stop to take photos, and my pace changes depending on my gear. Some trips are done with heavy, professional camera setups, while others are with a small point-and-shoot. Because of this, my Total Trip Time really depends on the gear I bring and the main purpose of the day—whether it’s a dedicated photography shoot or pure adventure seeking!
