Squamish Backcountry Touring

When you come to Squamish in winter, you do not see snow in the town. That will not make Squamish a ski/snowboard town!

Red Heather is a famous destination for winter backcountry. It is around the first mountain hut on Elfin Lakes trail. Trail head is about 900m in elevation, which is higher than base of WhistlerBlackcomb. You can put your skins on your skis/splitboard from parking, and ride down to the parking!

I went to my first ski touring of this winter on November 23rd, and I did not step on any dirt! Yes, winter is ON!!

Hike up is one to two hours depending on your speed. The snow depth was 75cm at 1400m elevation. It is plenty of snow for riding!!

We had three short runs and a skiing down to the parking.

We went for tree runs, but it was not fill enough yet. There were many small trees and fallen trees trying to grab our skis, so be careful if you are in trees!

The first day of skiing is always the best!

Check park rules before you go!

I saw a couple with their dog, so I told them it is not allowed to bring pets to Garibaldi Park. Please make sure the rules before you go.
