Hachimantai Cat skiing

Junya Kuragane enjoying his backyard

This was my first Tohoku experience. Tohoku is the northern part of Japan’s main island, where many snow cultures are still kept in and many unexplored areas are still around.

On January 29th, I took a bullet train ride to Morioka in Iwate, then took a local train to get to a lodge “Clubman”. Kuragane family owns and operates the lodge, and they guide in mountains as well.

*I will put links at the end, so you can find more information.

The lodge owner: Ikuo Kuragane

I only spent a day at the lodge…
The strongest storm of the season was approaching to us then, and we left the lodge a night earlier than we planned to. I really enjoyed food at the lodge and wanted to stay one more night…

Well, I now have a reason to come back!

I was shooting for a magazine this time with Rossignol Japan crew. They all enjoyed many laps of Hachimantai powder. We were mainly stayed in a mellow area since this was not an extreme skiing photo shoot;-) But I heard there are some good steep skiing as well. I hope I can go to that area next time.

Ikuo & Junya Kuragane

What I really want again is the pleasant time with these two.
