We had a cold winter in 2017, and many of Squamish mountains were covered in snow to lower elevation.

I teamed up with my long time buddies, Shikaiti Ueki, Yu Sasaki, and Jundai Nakashio. Squamish has most precipitation in Sea to Sky, but it is usually to warm to get snow in lower elevation.

But, this year was different. The temperature went below zero many days, and we had snow in town for many days. Snow was so light even around 1000m elevation.

Avalanche danger was high on this day, and we found debris coming into forest from above. We stayed below tree line. Snow was really good, so it was all okay!

I write this blog post in 2021, and we cannot use Sea to Sky Gondola due to an incident happened in 2020.
I hope they can open soon. It is definitely a great addition to Squamish’s all season activities!
By the way, we can still access to Skypilot via Shannon Creek FSR in 20-21 winter.
